The version being tested is <strong>1.0 beta</strong>, released in June 2007. According to the project’s homepage, gTwitter is currently “under heavy development”.</p>
<p>I wrote a text review of the gTwitter application over at <a href="http://microblink.com/">Microblink</a>, so feel free to check out the <a href="http://microblink.com/2008/09/15/gtwitter/">full review</a> there. Here&#8217;s a recap of the scores I gave it:</p>
<ul>
<li>Installation/Setup: <img class="alignnone" title="4 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/40star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
<li>User Interface: <img class="alignnone" title="3.5 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/35star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
<li>User Experience: <img class="alignnone" title="3 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/30star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
<li>Features: <img class="alignnone" title="2 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/20star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
<li>Performance: <img class="alignnone" title="3 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/30star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
<li>Overall Impression: <img class="alignnone" title="2 stars" src="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/wp-content/uploads/stars/20star.gif" alt="" width="73" height="13" /></li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Overall Impression:</strong></p>
<p>In my testing, I couldn&#8217;t find anything that set gTwitter apart from other Linux clients (to compare apples to apples) or anything that would give me any reason to use it. If you’re looking for a Twitter application for Linux, there is at least <a href="http://mark.bockenstedt.net/2008/09/01/under-review-twitux/">one nominally better option</a>. Unless you need a desktop application, I recommend sticking with the web interface or taking your chances on an AIR client.</p>

</ul>
<p><strong>Overall Impression:</strong></p>
<p>I have a hard time justifying giving this app a 2.5 because I don’t feel like it gives me any incentive to use it instead of the web interface. I really wanted to like Twitux because I know there are so many Linux users out there looking for a good desktop client. The simple, painful truth is that Twitux gives me no reason to want to use it.</p>
<p><strong>Exclusive Screencast Review</strong></p>
<p>I also put together a screencast going over some of the basics of Twitux to give you an idea of what the application looks like.</p>
