There are a number of pretty dramatic (yet exciting) changes on the admin side. Here are my favorites:

  • Upgrading becomes much easier
  • Threaded comments, and better comment layout in general
  • New admin look makes navigation quicker
  • Compatible with mu

This was really just a test post to make sure mu still works. I performed the upgrade here in about 10 minutes and it seems like nothing was adversely affected.

This should have no ill effects on any previous permalinks and hopefully won’t cause any problems with links leading to a 404. It went pretty smooth, other than the slowness it took me to copy the test instance over to my production instance. The new version of WordPress has some pretty handy features, so head over to the official blog post to read about them. I’ve already gotten one complaint that my Plurk Updater broke in 2.6, but I hadn’t even upgraded yet so this will also serve as a test run for mu.

Maybe it’s time to get back outside and get some fresh air. I’m sure my bike is building up spiderwebs and the situation on the roller blades isn’t much better.

Not much is new on the website front. I’m going to be moving the location of the blog because I can’t think of anything else to put on the homepage. The new location will be http://mark.bockenstedt.net/. I’ll be sure to put up a redirection page for anyone who missed the memo.

We got quite a bit of rain on Thursday night, enough to flood a good portion of town. So last night I rode around on the bike and captured some a good number of pictures. I missed some of the action near Lincoln/University because I ran out of time.

We’re also making the final push to finish the bathroom project that’s gone on for far too long. We just replaced the last of the floor and painted the rest of the old shower area. The finishing touches are to put up shelving and finish caulking up the tub.

And the other thing, Bags. We spent some time last night spray painting the logos on the boxes, though they need some touch-up work. We got the bags in the mail yesterday so we had to try em out. They’re made of duck canvas, which feels like a really thick cloth. Should be pretty durable, or at least I hope so for $25.

With the new release comes a few new features. Some are pretty cool, but others I haven’t figured out yet. The new features (that work) are:

  • Shutterfly Integration – when viewing a single image, there will be an image in the lower left corner. Click this image, then choose “Add to Shutterfly Cart” and you should be able to purchase that photo directly from Shutterfly. I don’t know if/how it works, so if anyone does it, let me know.
  • Slideshow – In an album or when viewing a single image, a “View Slideshow” link appears below the image. There are controls at the top of the slideshow that let you go back and forward, stop, pause, and play the show.

Even though it is a hassle to redo my customizations when a new release is made, I’ll try to stay on top of them.

I shouldn’t even be messing with it but there were a few nagging things that bugged me enough to take action. Each photo album now has an image count associated with it, as well as a subalbum count. I’m also still going through the albums and wedding out the images I don’t like, which has turned out to be a much more daunting task than I originally imagined. I spent a ridiculous amount of time last night working out some nags I had with the image gallery, but for right now, I’m satisfied with its functionality.
