If you had five minutes to talk to Des Moines what would you say?

That’s the premise of Ignite Des Moines. This Ignite is the first event of its type in Des Moines. It’s hosted by Impromptu Studio and will be held this Thursday, November 6. The event will be home to some of the brightest and most ambitious people in Central Iowa. The list of speakers can be found here and here.

Preceding the event will be an Egg Catapult contest similar to what you may remember from high school physics classes – build a contraption that will prevent an egg from being destroyed after being hurled at a solid wall (participation in the contest is voluntary). The event will also play host to the Iowa Web Awards. In Iowa’s version of “The Webbies“, Microblink is up for awards in two categories, including Best Tech Blog and Best Resource Blog.

Registration for the event is still on, so if you want to go you should reserve a spot. Admission is free, but the facilitators would like to have an estimate of how many people to expect.
