Statewide Smoking Ban

June 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been waiting for this day ever since I was eligible to go to bars. We’re t-1 week from the end of smoking in public places. This is a real victory for the non-smokers whose rights are infringed upon everytime a cigarette is lit up. Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit that’s engaged and taken far too many lives. Smokers have no right to stink up public establishments with their carcinogenic second-hand smoke. It’s a matter of public health and safety.

Think about the young waiters and waitresses at restaurants who have been subjected to cigarette smoke. Now think of a pregnant waitress in that position. The right to smoke ends when the right violates someone else’s right to clean air. Take it somewhere else, I’m sick of smelling it.

I really hope the state handles the ban properly. They need to make sure local law enforcement is enforcing it, as well as establishment owners. I really want to see this law succeed because it’s good for those who don’t smoke. For those who do, maybe it’s time to consider quitting.
